HARTE-HANKS FAIR INFORMATION POLICY
Harte-Hanks is, among other things, one of the largest providers of direct and interactive services in the United States, and the world. Harte-Hanks maintains for its clients resident databases, consumer databases and customer databases and has access to other information and databases that provide names and addresses and related demographic information on consumers throughout the United States. In addition, Harte-Hanks complies and sells access to business data on the information technology needs of corporations and institutions throughout the world.
It is the policy and practice of Harte-Hanks to maintain the security and confidentiality of the information it obtains from its customers or for the benefit of its customers and to assist its customers to ensure privacy protection.
It is our resolve to:
1. Comply with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations and to comply with prevailing industry ethical standards, in the United States and elsewhere. The company monitors privacy issues on a regular basis to assure that changes in legislation, regulation, and self-regulation/peer-regulation are included in this policy and are communicated to and understood by Harte-Hanks employees.
2. Recognize the rights of consumers worldwide to make choices about the dissemination of information about themselves. For example, in the United States, Harte-Hanks uses the Direct Marketing Association Mail Preference Service (MPS), Telephone Preference Service (TPS), and E-mail Preference Service (EMPS) to suppress name and contact information upon request. Harte-Hanks also encourages its consumer marketing clients to maintain their own name-removal or suppression lists and to use MPS, TPS, and EMPS. Where appropriate, Harte-Hanks also avails itself of government-sponsored and privately offered suppression services, as well as data suppression services offered by direct marketing associations of other countries.
3. Develop and implement employee training programs in furtherance of our Fair Information Policy, including programs that will train appropriate employees to recognize and to manage consumer privacy sensitivities in a proactive manner.
4. Collect and use data pertinent to marketing and analytic purposes. Harte-Hanks assists customers in choosing responsible data sources and recommends those demographic data elements necessary for their marketing objectives. 5. Utilize leading edge software technology and systems to develop and maintain sophisticated marketing databases for its customers.
6. Apply security measures to safeguard data from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.
7. Work with recognized trade associations that support consumer privacy protection. Harte-Hanks actively participates in the U.S. Direct Marketing Association's efforts to establish industry guidelines that safeguard personal information protection and to advance such a regimen worldwide.
8. Provide products and services to Harte-Hanks customers that help them improve the accuracy of information they maintain about their customers.
